About Me

Hey there!

I’m Lorelei, and you appear to have stumbled upon the about me section! Below there’s info about the types of art I create and my experience. There is also an extensive list of the works of media that have influenced the types of art I craft and the worlds I build. I feel it’s important to get an idea of the things that inspire my imagination, especially if you’re considering a commission.

I’ll also include some pieces of media I highly recommend you check out if you enjoy this sort of thing!

About My Work:

I’ve been doing fantasy cartography since 2019, including commissions for TTRPGs, personal pieces, and for my own enjoyment. I absolutely adore making maps and I’m constantly experimenting with new ideas and techniques. I take a lot of pride in pouring creativity into the things I make, as what’s a world without some interesting history and places?

I’ve also done freelance and commission work, including concept art for an indie game that’s being actively developed, small adventure modules for Dungeons & Dragons, and paintings. I’ve also done bookbinding, both for myself and other people.

I work predominately in ink, specifically India ink and dip pen, though I’ve done a lot of work in microns and fountain pens. I use acrylic ink and gouache for my color work, though have been experimenting with acrylic paints and watercolors recently. Most pieces start with loose pencil outlines that I fill out with details I want to touch on as well as labels if there are any, then I go over the whole thing with a dip pen and fill out the entire piece with line work, details, and names.

That all said, I’m always willing and excited to try new styles, mediums, and pieces!

Inspirations:

Below are lists of some of my major inspirations!

I love all things Table Top RPG and am constantly trying out different systems including D&D, Cyberpunk: Red, Delta Green, Star Wars: Edge of the Empire, Savage Worlds, Mörk Borg, Heart: The City Beneath, Slugblaster, and my current favorite, Conan: Adventures in an Age Undreamed Of.

I also adore video games and am constantly inspired by them. Some of my favorites which inspire me the most are Kenshi, Sunless Sea, Fallen London, Halo, Valheim, The Witcher 3, Dishonored, Elden Ring, and Destiny.

Books! I read a lot of fiction, some historical non-fiction, as well as a lot of poetry. I’ll stick to recommending fiction here, as I know history and poetry aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. Some of my favorites are the His Dark Materials series (The Golden Compass) by Philip Pullman, The Gentleman Bastards series (The Lies of Locke Lamora) by Scott Lynch, A Memory Called Empire & A Desolation Called Peace by Arkady Martine, Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu, Titus Groan by Mervyn Peake, Neuromancer by William Gibson, and Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury. There are so many more but these are the essentials; how can one distill all the books they enjoy?

There’s also a plethora of shows and movies that I love that have inspired my work. For movies there’s Aliens, Moonrise Kingdom, Blade Runner, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Evil Dead series, The Thing, Apocalypse Now, The Godfather (part one and two), Constantine, The Seven Samurai, and the Mad Max series. In the world of shows there’s Adventure Time, The Expanse, Gurren Lagann, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Westworld, Fire Force, Gravity Falls, Farscape, Star Trek (especially DS9), and Firefly.

Overall I love fantasy, sci-fi, westerns, science-fantasy, post-apocalyptica, and a smattering of horror. There’s plenty of books, movies, comics, and games I didn’t list here, but this is a pretty cohesive tasting menu of the things I enjoy.
